Newborn baby photoshoots can be a lot of fun, but they can also be a lot of work. If you’re planning on doing one, it’s essential to be prepared. Here are some tips to help you prepare for your newborn baby photoshoot.
Preparing for the Newborn Baby Photoshoot #
As professional photographers, we understand that preparation goes the extra mile. We always give our clients the following guidelines:
A newborn-styled shoot is best when your baby is not older than ten days old. After ten days, your baby becomes more alert. In the case of a lifestyle shoot, you can give your baby more time. You will be looking at between two to 3 weeks at the latest.
At TC productions, we have props that we use for newborn babies. You can bring your props. All our props are cleaned after every shoot, and your baby’s safety is our biggest priority.

Should you require some family photos, or even if it’s just a few pictures of your family with the baby? Please let us know in advance because preparing for a newborn baby shoot alone is quite a unique process.
Please ensure that the baby is well fed before the session starts. The timing of the photoshoot should overlap with your baby’s naptime, and newborn babies are better photographed when asleep. With that said, keep your baby awake for at least 1 – 2 hours before the session.
Please refrain from dressing and undressing your baby during the photo shoot. They will get agitated and might start crying. At this stage, we should be working with just props as they are easy to put and take away.
Our studio is always warm enough for the baby. If you want to do the shoot by your house, you should keep your room warm enough to keep the baby warm. Natural light is essential if the photo shoot occurs at your home.

White noise or baby sleeping tunes will keep your baby calm during the session, be sure to keep the pacifier handy if your baby uses one.
Should you wish to be photographed with the baby, please ensure that you follow the general Studio / outdoor photoshoot preparation guide found here. Ensure that your color choices don’t clash with your baby photoshoot theme
